CAMELIDS : Llamas and Alpacas
Zoolittle Farm raises camelids. The category of animals that llamas and alpacas are grouped. They are also in the same family with camels, hence the name camelids. The fleeces from these animals are highly desireable because of the softness and warmth. I often sell whole fleeces to handspinners and yarn to knitters. Question that I often get.. . . Do alpacas and llamas spit? . . . . . You bet! Mostly at each other and over food. I have found that alpacas spit more than llamas at people out of fear. I have a couple that if they need shots , nail trim or anything out of the regular schedule they also need a spit sock. On average everyone is peaceful.
